Some highlights of the Autism Workshop held on 25/05/2019
Hello All,
I am back after a little hiatus…lots had been going on, and it became a bit too much to juggle that many things at once. Blogging had to therefore take a back seat for a short while.
I think the most exciting thing since my last blog was the Autism workshop on 25/05/2019. I am thrilled to say that it was a success. There were some hiccups, however, it was the first workshop I planned and presented solo, so I leave these to be part of the learning experience. I have to admit, I was a tad nervous that morning, however, my audience was a great group and I was ease once I started.
Some of the highlights included:
- Awesome mix of attendees: Occupational Therapists (from Department of Health, Department of Education, Public Sector and Private Sector), Speech Therapists, Physiotherapist, Nurse, Social Worker, Educator and Parents.
- A talk by a mother of a child with autism on her own experience.
- Interactive sessions
- Group work on how to make Visual Schedules to help children with autism learn.
Thank you to all those who attended and to all those who lent a hand in any way. As much as you can plan something by yourself, by the time it is implemented, you will always find that you actually did have some kind of help or support along the way. I am very appreciative of this.
The keen interest in this workshop paves the way for a follow up workshop to be announced soon. The next workshop will focus more on treatment and will have more parent involvement as well. As a bonus, an ethics topic will also be included, so watch this space for more information.
I also mentioned in the workshop that I am interested in starting an Autism Support Group in Phoenix. If you know of people interested in attending, please do send me their details or alternatively, send them mine. Logistics are yet to be arranged.
June is here, the year is flying by and the school holiday will be upon us in a matter of days!! Lots and lots to do!
This was just a quick hello! Time for me to skedaddle.
Come visit again soon.
